Amanda Lobato, PhD Research Coordinator

Dr. Lobato, a South Florida native with Brazilian heritage, has a strong background in genetics and biomedical research. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Biology from St. Thomas University, where she conducted research on medicinal plant genetics under Dr. Pilar Maul. She then pursued a PhD in Human Genetics and Genomics at the University of Miami, conducting her doctoral research in Dr. Grace Zhai's lab. Her work focused on developing transgenic Drosophila models to investigate disease mechanisms and potential therapies for neurodegenerative and peripheral neuropathy disorders, including Alzheimer's Disease, Huntington's Disease, SORD deficiency, and Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia.
Following her PhD, Dr. Lobato continued her research as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Chicago, further expanding her expertise in translational medicine. Throughout her career, she has published multiple peer-reviewed research articles and presented her findings at national and international conferences. Now, as a Clinical Research Coordinator, she is committed to applying her expertise to advance patient-centered research and clinical trials.
Outside of work, she enjoys playing soccer and spending time at the beach.
