Limb Deformity

The treatment of any type of limb deformity in both children and adults is complex.  Deformities vary from minor to major, some of which are obvious to the naked eye and some are internal causing joint pain and stiffness.

Newer technologies such as the Taylor Spatial Frame (Smith and Nephew, Memphis, Tenn) have allowed for more precise and safe correction of the most severe deformities.  Dr. Feldman was one of the first to extensively use this computerized device for pediatric limb deformity.  He has published on its effectiveness in both the pediatric and adult population.

Internal deformities such as hip dysplasia is another area that requires extensive expertise to manage.  The use of hip osteotomies such as the periacetabular osteotomy (Ganz) may allow patients who have suffered for years with debilitating hip pain, to be virtually pain free and avoid the need for hip replacement.
